LPGCIL & IILAH Workshop: From Lenin to the New Imperialism - Marxist Accounts of Imperialism in the 20th and 21st centuries

This one-day, participant-driven workshop on 17 February 2025 explores the foundational texts of imperialism through three guiding questions: 1. How have different scholars and thinkers understood imperialism, and what was at stake for them? 2. How have these understandings and stakes transformed over the century? 3. What is the authors’ account of (international) law? Each session will begin with a 15–20-minute introduction by a pre-selected participant. The introductory remarks will give a summary of the work and its author, and impulses to structure the discussion. All participants are required to have read all texts prior to the workshop and will sign up to introduce one text. The workshop is convened by Haris Jamil and Michael Bader and facilitated by Dr Ntina Tzouvala.

Please register by writing to Michael at m.bader@unimelb.edu.au. Upon registration via email, participants will receive access to the relevant texts and the sign-up sheet. The workshop will be capped at 15 registrations on a first-come first-serve basis.
